Blackbeard coming to TV

Blackbeard has become a TV star.

This fall, A&E will air a documentary on Blackbeard as part of the network's new "Sea Tales" series.

The one-hour show is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 30. Check local listings for time.

The series, which airs on Thursdays, features famous stories of the sea, everything from the mutiny on the Bounty to the St. Louis, the Jewish refugee ship from World War II.

The Blackbeard segment, called "Blackbeard's Reign of Terror," was co-produced and co-written by Kelly McPherson of MPH Entertainment in Los Angeles.

"You're going to hear the real story of Blackbeard, which is as compelling as many of the myths that sprang up around him," McPherson says. "At the same time, we dispel a few of the myths."

The crew filmed part of the documentary at Beaufort and Ocracoke. Producers also staged some reenactments aboard the replica of an 1800s ship in Los Angeles.

David Moore, a Blackbeard expert at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, served as consultant.
